Justin's actions
Waste
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
I will keep 5 disposable plastic bottle(s) from entering the waste stream by using a reusable water bottle.
Waste
Reduce Single-Use Disposables
Cheap, single-use items and disposable packaging end up blowing around as litter more often in poor and POC-majority neighborhoods. I will find out how I can limit single-use items and do my best to limit the waste I generate.
Waste
Learn About & Practice Sustainable Fashion
I will learn about sustainable fashion and begin trying to practice it in my own life.
Water
Say No to Plastic Straws
An estimated 71% of seabirds and 30% of turtles have been found with plastics in their stomachs. When they ingest plastic, marine life has a 50% mortality rate. By asking for no straw when placing a drink order, I will keep 6 plastic straw(s) of out of the ocean each day.
Simplicity
Core Values
We may find more meaning and joy in life when our actions are aligned with our personal values. I will determine what my top 3-5 core values are so that I can better align my actions with them.
Transportation
Work from Home
I will work from home 1 day(s) to avoid my commute's carbon output.

REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportationIt takes the average worker in the United States 26 minutes to travel to work. One way to fix long commutes would be to make cities more affordable. An even simpler option: promote the use of telework. How have you used technology to replace in-person meetings or work this year?
Justin Giuffrida(cho104) 10/18/2023 12:31 PMI don't feel as if this is really possible to replace work with telework since most jobs actually can't be replaced due to them demanding in person service. unless we had eco-friendly transportation (faster than bike riding and walking) which I don't see happening in the foreseeable future, but maybe will become a blessing, we will have to use cars, trains, busses and whatnot. This being said, I have missed a couple of classes leaving time for me to do my homework and teach myself the lectures instead of driving to school. Being that everything is given to us in the first place, and we often have to reteach ourselves the lectures multiple times anyways. This in sense being like telework leaving me able to not damage our environment with my gas driven car as transportation. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaterWhat single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?
Justin Giuffrida(cho104) 10/16/2023 11:23 AMI regularly use Plastic straws, cups, baggage, and more, and I can substitute them all with reuseable alternatives. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWasteWhile water bottles are needed for health and safety in certain places, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. What are the barriers to you using reusable bottles and tap water instead of bottled water? How could you make this a permanent habit?
Justin Giuffrida(cho104) 10/16/2023 11:21 AMIt's definitely harder to carry a big reuseable bottle around all day, but with my backpack and simple act of remembering, soon it will be muscle memory to always have the bottle by my side.-
Rachael Clarke 10/16/2023 4:40 PMI have found that making my water bottle and reusable mugs more special to me by adding stickers has helped me want to use them more often and helps me remember them
