REFLECTION QUESTIONWaterHow do you think climate change will affect your region’s water supply? Think about the effects of weather, storms, salinity, and sea level rise, among other changes. How can you find out more about climate change’s impact to your region's water?
Aidan Mann 11/16/2023 6:30 AMI think that climate change could bring the water up to a higher temp causing excess algae growth reducing water quality. I can learn more about this by looking it up. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealthWhat can lack of access to nutritious food affect a community? How can having access to nutritious food help a community become more resilient?
Aidan Mann 11/15/2023 6:37 AMPoor diet can lead to heart disease and even obesity, so if a whole village has heart disease they could suffer substantial population loss. Having access to nutrient food can make a community happier and stronger and even more resistant to disease -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodHow does food sovereignty address the complex transition from localized food systems to modern global food systems?
Aidan Mann 11/13/2023 8:35 AMFood sovereignty addresses the issue of modern systems by keeping it as sustainable as possible while also being large scale. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONNatureRachel Carson said that we need the beauty and mysteries of the natural world for our spiritual and emotional development. Does that ring true for you? What are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time indoors?
Aidan Mann 11/13/2023 5:37 AMI think this is true for me because I feel much happier outside and It is required for a healthy life. A society that spends most of its time indoors will be less happy and healthy. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWasteWhile water bottles are needed for health and safety in certain places, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. What are the barriers to you using reusable bottles and tap water instead of bottled water? How could you make this a permanent habit?
Aidan Mann 11/10/2023 1:51 PMA barrier to me using reusable bottles is if I am on a long road trip and forget a reusable bottle I have no other choice but to buy bottled water. A action I can take to make this a habit is always remember to bring a reusable bottle. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWasteOur ability to recycle certain things ebbs and flows based upon many factors, including market demand for recyclables. Luckily there are places that accept uncommon things to recycle or dispose of in a less harmful way. What did you find when looking for places to recycle items that can't be recycled in your curbside bin?
Aidan Mann 11/09/2023 6:44 AMI found that recycling is WAYYYYYYYY to complicated and until it isn't and a normal person can comprehend it, it will be completely nonviable. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWasteIn what neighborhoods or areas of your region are landfills or other waste sites located? Which communities are most affected by these locations?
-
REFLECTION QUESTIONNatureHow do you experience your neighborhood or city differently when walking instead of driving?
Aidan Mann 11/08/2023 3:03 PMI can smell the fresh air and I can feel the leaves crunch under my feet. I can hear the birds and feel the sunlight. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWasteWhat do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reusable one with you or aren't allowed to use the one you brought? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to create a successful habit of not using plastic bags?
Aidan Mann 11/08/2023 6:46 AMIf I find myself in that situation I am most definitely using a disposable bag because there is no way I would carry things in my hands and do multiple trips over just using a plastic bag. If they have a cart available I can establish a habit of using a cart instead of disposable bags.
