Lexi's actions
Waste
Use Reusable Bags
If at all possible, I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases.
Waste
Advocate For More Food Packaging Options
I will advocate for alternatives to single-use packaging at local grocery stores, markets, at work, or on campus to reduce pollution in the environment and in local communities.
Health
Take Control
Both systemic and personal sustainability are important! I will develop a plan with my medical professionals to achieve my best health and live my life to the fullest.
Food
Advocate for More Food Options
I will advocate for local and/or organic food options at work or on campus.
Food
Choose Organic Ingredients
I will enjoy 2 meal(s) cooked with organic ingredients each day.
Waste
Go Paperless
I will reduce the amount of paper mail that I receive by 0.11lbs (0.05kg) a day or 3.3lbs (1.6kg) a month by opting into paperless billing, ending unwanted subscriptions and opting out of junk mail.
Waste
Choose Two-Sided Printing
I will save up to .21 lbs (.09 kg) of paper per day by switching from one-sided printing to two-sided when I have to print documents.
Health
Go get a check up
I will make an appointment for my annual physical.
Health
Exercise Daily
Exercise is a great stress blaster! I will exercise for 30 minute(s) each day.
Health
Eliminate Toxic Plastics
I will avoid buying toxic plastics - including polycarbonate, polystyrene and polyvinyl - and instead replace them with durable non-plastic options.
Food
Reduce Animal Products
I will enjoy 1 meatless meal(s) and/or 1 vegan meal(s) each day this week.
Health
More Fruits and Veggies
I will eat a heart healthy diet by adding 4 cup(s) of fruits and vegetables each day to achieve at least 4 cups per day.
Transportation
Stay on the Ground
Instead of traveling by plane, I will find an alternative way to accomplish the goals of an upcoming trip (i.e. telepresence, vacation locally).
Waste
Skip the Straw
Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 2 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.
Waste
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
I will keep 6 disposable plastic bottle(s) from entering the waste stream by using a reusable water bottle.
Transportation
Walk Instead
I will walk 5 mile(s) each day instead of driving and avoid sending up to (___) lbs of CO2 into Earth's atmosphere.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWasteWhile water bottles are needed for health and safety in certain places, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. What are the barriers to you using reusable bottles and tap water instead of bottled water? How could you make this a permanent habit?
Lexi Mazzella (901) 4/17/2024 6:36 AMI had stopped using plastic water bottles a few years ago when hydroflasks became popular. I have only used my hydroflask and refill it almost 8 times a day. I have eliminated plastic water bottles out of my life and this has ultimately allowed me to reduce plastic by a huge percentage. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealthHow does eating more fruits and vegetables and less meat positively affect yourself, other people, and our planet?
Lexi Mazzella (901) 4/17/2024 6:30 AMEating more fruits and veggies means that you will eat less processed foods. By eating healthier options your overall health will be better. You will also feel better in your own skin. This can others by influencing them to eat more natural foods due to sharing how good you're feeling. Our planet will benefit because our farms will thrive rather than our factories.
