Yasmin's actions
Waste
RESEARCH LOCAL WASTE SITES
I will spend 40 minutes finding out where landfills and/or toxic waste sites are situated in my region and which communities are most impacted by these sites.
Waste
Learn About & Practice Sustainable Fashion
I will learn about sustainable fashion and begin trying to practice it in my own life.
Food
Advocate for More Food Options
I will advocate for local and/or organic food options at work or on campus.
Food
Choose Organic Ingredients
I will enjoy 1 meal(s) cooked with organic ingredients each day.
Waste
Skip the Straw
Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 2 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.
Waste
Use a Reusable Mug
I will avoid sending 1 disposable cup(s) to the landfill each day by using a reusable mug.
Waste
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
I will keep 1 disposable plastic bottle(s) from entering the waste stream by using a reusable water bottle.
Waste
Use Reusable Bags
If at all possible, I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases.
Food
Whole Food Lifestyle
I will enjoy 1 meal(s) each day free of processed foods.
Food
Zero-Waste Cooking
I will cook 2 meal(s) with zero-waste each day
Energy
Use an Energy Meter
I will use an energy meter to monitor my energy use and identify opportunities to save power.
Energy
Replace Manual Thermostats
I will replace manual thermostats with programmable ones.
Energy
Power Down the Computer
I will power down my computer and monitor when not using it for more than 2 hours, saving up to (1.1) lbs of CO2 each day that I do this.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWasteHow could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle?
Yasmin Perez Rangel 11/29/2023 8:41 AMI can start thinking about different ways to use things that I might feel like I don't need, or donate them instead of just throwing them away. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWasteWhile water bottles are needed for health and safety in certain places, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. What are the barriers to you using reusable bottles and tap water instead of bottled water? How could you make this a permanent habit?
Yasmin Perez Rangel 11/28/2023 1:46 PMA barrier i can think of that prevents me from using reusable bottles is that sometimes I don't have a bottle with me, and I am thirsty, so I end up buying a plastic bottle that isn't reusable. I can prevent this by keeping a reusable bottle in my car. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWasteWhat do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reusable one with you or aren't allowed to use the one you brought? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to create a successful habit of not using plastic bags?
Yasmin Perez Rangel 11/28/2023 1:43 PMIf I don't have many things I would probably just carry them. However, if there are many things and I can't take the cart out of the store, I would end up buying a reusable bag. In order to prevent these situations, I will keep reusable bags in my car and purse.
