REFLECTION QUESTIONWaterTrace the water that flows down the drain from your house to the largest body of water nearby. What is the route it takes?
-
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaterFixing leaky faucets is one of the tasks that we can easily put off until later. Good job on completing this action! How will you use the momentum from completing this action to increase your water efficiency in other ways?
-
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaterWhat are the most prominent water concerns in your area? Examples include drought, flooding, pollution, access, security, and privatization.
Jasmin R 11/10/2023 10:17 PMI live near areas in the lower mainland that are prone to flooding. Many of my friends had to evacuate during the floods and this was/has been a major water concern in our area. The other day, our drain was full of leaves and the water had rose to a concerning height as the rain was very heavy. This reminds me to be mindful about the area that I live in and to ensure that drains and the other features of my area are kept safe to prevent flooding. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunityHow do/can Ecochallenge.org programs help you develop a stronger sense of community?

Jasmin R 11/10/2023 12:35 PMYesterday I donated some clothes to MCC! I also went thrift shopping and bought some new clothes! I try to donate and thrift clothes as often as I can! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?
Jasmin R 11/10/2023 12:32 PMThe higher income in richer countries may be an indicator of their higher meat consumption. The production and distribution of meat can be harmful to the planet through the release of greenhouse gases which contributes to global warming and pollution in the environment. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicityHow is creativity a necessary ingredient for practicing simplicity?
Jasmin R 11/10/2023 12:24 PMSometimes when I see or hear the word “creativity” I think of doing more / putting in extra effort. However, simplicity can help form creativity into something that may be easier to approach. For example, if we clear distractions, focus on one thing at a time, and simplify directions we may be able to complete tasks more efficiently!

REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicityWhat did you notice in implementing this challenge? Was it hard to choose other activities over screen time? How did you decide to spend your time?
Jasmin R 11/09/2023 8:54 PMI often get headaches or feel tired after looking at screens for long periods of time. In implementing this challenge, I felt a lot more refreshed as I encouraged myself to go on a walk or organize instead of staying on my laptop! It was easy to find activities and I overall felt more motivated!-
Samantha G 11/10/2023 12:13 PMI do too! It can be really hard to avoid screens for me, since I spend the majority of my workday in front of a computer. Then I go home to do my schoolwork and continue working on my computer, so as a practice, I try to take a lot of breaks to get away from my computer! If I can't, I try to follow the 20-20-20 rule: every 20 minutes, look at something 20 ft. away for 20 seconds I find it helps, especially if you are able to look outside!

REFLECTION QUESTIONNatureFather Thomas Berry says, "... our primary purpose is celebration. Celebration of the dawn and the sunset and the different seasons of the year is a religious ritual, a way in which humans can establish their integral relationship with the universe, with the planet Earth." What is your response to Berry's assertion?

Jasmin R 11/09/2023 8:41 PMThis week, the campus ecochallenge has been going well! I feel like I have had a bit more time to complete some of the reflection questions as well as read some of the other reflections and comments! I will definitely miss having this challenge but I am excited to continue reflecting on myself and my contributions to the environment day to day.
